In August 2006, Rogue Pictures finalized a deal to remake The Last House on the Left (1972) with original writer and director Wes Craven as a producer. In 1972, he did not have the budget to film every piece of the story he wanted to tell. Many different versions of the film exist on various DVD and VHS releases struck from different cuts of the film, many of them from different countries.

Her parents, Estelle and John, express their concern about her friendship with Phyllis but let her go and give her a peace symbol necklace. Before the concert, Mari and Phyllis encounter Junior while trying to buy marijuana.

Chilling remake of the 1972 cult classic chronicles the gripping tale of homicidal maniacs who seek refuge at an out-of-the-way house that happens to be the home of their victim's parents, who learn of the killers' crime and seek revenge. The next morning, Mari and Phyllis are bound, gagged, and put in the trunk of Krug's car and transported to the woods. Phyllis is forced to urinate in her jeans, and Mari and Phyllis are forced to perform sexual acts on each other. Phyllis distracts the kidnappers to give Mari an opportunity to escape but is chased by Sadie and Weasel, while Junior stays behind to guard Mari. Mari tries gaining Junior's trust by giving him her necklace and calling him "Willow". Phyllis stumbles across a cemetery where she is cornered and stabbed by Weasel.
He leads them to an apartment where they are trapped by the criminals. Phyllis tries to escape and reason with them, but she fails and is gang-raped. Meanwhile, Mari's unsuspecting parents prepare a surprise party for her. After they change out of their bloody clothes, the gang goes to the Collingwoods' home, masquerading as traveling salesmen. Later, when Junior is in the midst of heroin withdrawal, Estelle enters the bathroom to check on him and sees Mari's peace symbol necklace around his neck.

Craven, who wrote and directed the original film, was interested to see what kind of film could be made on a larger budget, as the limited funds forced him to remove scenes he had wanted to film to tell a complete story. One of the elements Iliadis wanted to avoid with the film, given its graphic nature, was turning it into "torture porn". For Craven and Iliadis, the film primarily illustrates how even the most normal of families can be driven to commit evil acts if pushed too far. Distributor Hallmark Releasing, in partnership with American International Pictures, gave him and Craven funding after the box office success of Cunningham's Together (1971).

The Last House on the Left was released in the United States on August 30, 1972. Finding Francis dead, Krug realizes that they are Mari's parents. John and Justin break in and Sadie beats them with a shower curtain rod, almost knocking them out until Emma shoots Sadie through her left eye, killing her. Krug hides, and attacks John and Justin when they search for him. Justin is stabbed by Krug, but with a combined effort from Emma and John, Krug is knocked unconscious.
